Egypt–African Union trade exchange reaches US$9.8 billion

Trade between Egypt and African Union (AU) member states reached US$9.8 billion in 2024. The figure represents a 6.5 per cent increase from US$9.2 billion recorded in 2023, as reported by the
Daily News Egypt, a partner of TV BRICS.

Egypt’s exports to AU countries rose by 4.7 per cent, totalling US$7.7 billion in 2024 compared to US$7.4 billion the previous year.

Major Egyptian exports included cement, gypsum, and salt (US$694.4 million); plastics and plastic products (US$590.5 million); milled products (US$397 million); electrical machinery and equipment (US$357.8 million); iron and steel (US$289.4 million); and various stone and cement-based materials (US$279.2 million).

On the import side, Egypt brought in US$2.1 billion worth of goods from AU countries in 2024, a 14.5 per cent increase from US$1.8 billion in 2023.

Top imports included copper and copper products (US$741.5 million), coffee and tea (US$286.6 million), mineral fuels and oils (US$203.7 million), live animals (US$147.6 million), oil seeds and oleaginous fruits (US$109.4 million), vehicles and tractors (US$85.3 million), cotton (US$80.9 million), and iron and steel (US$73.6 million).
