Egypt and Mozambique forge partnership to establish regional drug distribution hub

A memorandum of understanding has been signed between Egypt and Mozambique to establish a regional logistics centre for the distribution of pharmaceuticals across the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region. The agreement was formalised at the Presidential Palace in Mozambique, witnessed by the Egyptian Ambassador to Maputo, Mohamed Farghal.

The Egyptian delegation held preparatory meetings with key Mozambican officials. This partnership is set to leverage Mozambique’s location to create an efficient distribution network for medicines, as reported by the
official website of the Egyptian government.

The initial focus will be on the establishment of the logistics centre, followed by the development of a pharmaceutical packaging plant. The agreement encompasses various aspects, including skills transfer, training initiatives, technology sharing, and capacity building for Mozambican personnel.

The visit also included participation in the Diplomatic Forum on Tourism and Investment in Africa, hosted in Maputo, and a tour of the cement factory in the economic city of Matola.
