Egypt and Zambia move to establish joint pharmaceutical plant to boost African medicine production
Egypt received a high-level delegation from Zambia to discuss the practical steps for the project
Cairo and Lusaka have taken a major step toward pharmaceutical cooperation, with the Egyptian Drug Authority announcing the launch of a project to establish a joint medicine manufacturing facility in Zambia. The initiative supports Egypt’s strategic goal of expanding into African markets and enhancing regional partnerships in the pharmaceutical sector, as reported by

Egypt received a high-level delegation from Zambia to discuss the practical steps for the project. The visit aligns with Egypt’s broader vision to strengthen industrial integration across the continent, transfer expertise and technologies, and support regulatory cooperation with African countries. The initiative aims to position Egypt as a regional pharmaceutical hub while contributing to the continent’s drug security.
The project is expected to facilitate the availability of high-quality medicines in Zambia and support the development of local pharmaceutical capacities. Representatives from both sides highlighted the importance of the partnership, viewing it as a milestone for sustainable healthcare collaboration.
The Zambian delegation, which included senior representatives of the Zambian company involved in the project, expressed appreciation for Egypt’s regulatory and technical expertise. They described the authority’s role as essential to ensuring the success of the joint factory and acknowledged Egypt’s leadership in pharmaceutical innovation in Africa.
The meeting reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to fostering African partnerships and supporting investments that contribute to the regional pharmaceutical industry, in line with the continent’s public health and economic development goals.
