Egypt and Zimbabwe have reinforced bilateral healthcare cooperation following a successful medical mission focused on paediatric cardiac surgery in the capital, Harare.

The initiative saw a specialised Egyptian medical team carry out complex open-heart procedures for children with critical conditions. In total, 10 surgeries were successfully performed, alongside follow-up care for patients treated during previous missions.

According to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, the programme highlights growing collaboration between the two countries in the healthcare sector, combining clinical expertise with local medical support to deliver advanced treatment. Medical teams worked closely together throughout the mission, reflecting a shared commitment to improving access to specialised care for children.

During an official visit to the hospital, Egypt’s ambassador to Zimbabwe, Maha Serageldin, reviewed patient conditions and toured key departments, including intensive care units and outpatient clinics. She commended the high professional standards demonstrated by both Egyptian and Zimbabwean healthcare teams, noting the importance of such partnerships in strengthening national health systems.

Officials described the mission as a practical example of international cooperation in healthcare, combining direct patient care with long-term skills development. The initiative is expected to contribute to sustainable improvements in cardiac treatment services and support future joint medical programmes.
