Egypt signs agreements of solid waste management in several governorates

These contracts encompass the construction of five secure sanitary landfills

Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, Hisham Amin, Minister of Local Development, and Mukhtar Abdel Latif, Chairperson of the Arab Organization for Industrialization agreed to build safe sanitary landfills and burial grounds in five cities. The total amount of the agreement is US$10 million. The Arab Industrialisation Organisation will take over the projects and clean up more than 500,000 tonnes of waste for an additional US$1,8 million.

Minister Hala El-Said noted the importance of the waste management system in achieving the goals of environmental development and sustainability of environmental resources. The Ministry of Planning supports the new system by integrating environmental aspects into national planning.

Minister Yasmine Fouad emphasised the importance of the fifth phase of the contract, which includes the establishment of new sanitary landfills to improve waste management.

The Ministry is actively involved in the project, ensuring the quality of work and providing environmental technical support for successful implementation.
