Egypt supplies 70% of global jasmine and essential oils production

Egypt imports perfumes worth over US$360 million annually

Egypt holds a leading global position in the production of jasmine flowers and essential oils, accounting for approximately 70 per cent of the world’s total jasmine output. This is reported by
MENA, a partner of TV BRICS.

According to the source, jasmine and its derivatives are one of Egypt’s key sources of hard currency, with the country globally recognised for exporting large quantities of raw jasmine paste and essential oil.

Experts noted that there is now a presidential directive to increase local processing and manufacturing of jasmine-based products rather than exporting them in raw form. Egypt imports perfumes worth over US$360 million annually, underlining the economic potential of harnessing the country’s natural plant resources for domestic fragrance production and export.

Furthermore, the shift towards local industrialisation of jasmine derivatives is seen as a strategic move to add value, strengthen the national economy, and position Egypt as a regional hub for high-quality perfume manufacturing.
