Emirati mountaineer makes history with ascent of Antarctica’s highest peak

Emirati climber Fatima Abdulrahman Al Awadhi has set a new landmark achievement for the Arab world by successfully ascending Mount Vinson, the tallest mountain in Antarctica. This is reported by
Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS.

The peak of Mount Vinson, rising 4,892 metres above sea level, represents one of the most remote and demanding destinations in global mountaineering.

By reaching the summit at just 18 years old, Al Awadhi became both the youngest climber and the first Arab to conquer Mount Vinson. This accomplishment marks her third completed ascent in the Seven Summits challenge, which involves scaling the highest mountain on each continent.

The climb itself unfolded under some of the planet’s harshest natural conditions. Al Awadhi navigated extreme cold with temperatures dropping below minus 40 degrees Celsius, fierce winds and prolonged isolation. The journey demanded intense physical conditioning, mental resilience and the ability to rely entirely on oneself for extended periods.

Reflecting on the ascent, Al Awadhi described Mount Vinson as a transformative experience that pushed her beyond her limits. Carrying the UAE flag to Antarctica’s highest point, she added, symbolises the determination of Emiratis to overcome even the most extreme challenges – a message she hopes will inspire young people and women to pursue their own summits.
