Ethiopia is currently engaging in discussions concerning the involvement and contribution of women in national dialogue

During a recent forum in Addis Ababa President Sahle-Work Zewde emphasised the critical importance of women’s engagement in the social fabric and cultural aspects of the nation for the success of the dialogue

President Zewde highlighted that women’s active involvement in the national dialogue is not only a matter of correctness but also stems from their significant role in the dialogue. This was reported by

Moreover, she underlined that women should participate proactively, not only due to their entitlement but also because it is their duty.

Mesfin Araya, the National Dialogue Commission Chairperson, mentioned that various initiatives have been implemented to enhance women’s participation, aiming to ensure the inclusivity of the ongoing national dialogue process.

He explained that a selection criterion for participants has been established to guarantee a 30 per cent representation for women.

In addition to boosting participation, diverse awareness-raising campaigns have been carried out nationwide to empower women.

Furthermore Ergoge Tesfaye, the Women and Social Affairs Minister, expressed that the national dialogue holds significant importance for women, as they are often the primary victims of conflicts.

Therefore, she highlighted the necessity for women to exert influence on the process through the application of wisdom.
