Ethiopia to host 2027 UN Climate Summit

Ethiopia will host the 32nd United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP32) in 2027. The decision was announced during the 30th Climate Conference (COP30) taking place in Belem, Brazil, according to
Fana Media Corporation (FMC), a partner of TV BRICS.

Ethiopia is implementing national environmental programmes, including the
“Green Legacy” initiative, aimed at reforestation and the development of renewable energy.

The choice was also influenced by Ethiopia’s developed infrastructure and its experience in hosting major international events. Over the past year, the country has organised more than 150 conferences and forums. In September 2025, Ethiopia hosted the second African Climate Summit, which brought together over 26,000 participants. The meeting resulted in the adoption of the Addis Ababa Declaration, which outlines a unified continental position on climate issues.

More than 50,000 participants are expected to attend COP32.

Ethiopia submitted its bid to host the summit in September, competing with Nigeria. It was later unanimously endorsed as Africa’s official candidate.

The host country for COP31 in 2026 has yet to be determined.
