Thailand is interested in strengthening cooperation with Russia, India, China, South Africa and Brazil, and joint work with these countries is progressing quite effectively, Vladimir Kovalev, Executive Director of the Russia–Thai Business Council, said in an exclusive interview at the TV BRICS studio in the Roscongress International Cooperation Area at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
According to Kovalev, the main areas of cooperation are food security and trade in agricultural products. Specific projects aimed at increasing supplies of Russian food products to the Thai market are currently under discussion.
In addition, Thailand is actively participating in joint initiatives in the fields of transport, logistics, investment, financial cooperation, and settlements.
Business remains the key driver of Russia–Thailand cooperation.
“Our colleagues are beginning to implement projects in Russia. Accordingly, Thai businesses are actively looking at the market of the Russian Federation and the market of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). In particular, this includes major sportswear manufacturers that operate in this industry and are already entering the Russian market. We are seeing cooperation in the supply of fertilisers, and we are seeing cooperation in the IT and telecommunications sectors, with Thai companies entering Russia and implementing projects here, while our colleagues are likewise working in the Thai market. […] The scope of our cooperation is very broad,” said Vladimir Kovalev.
He noted that Russia and Thailand intend to continue developing joint investment projects and strengthening business ties. In 2026, the second Russia–Thai Investment Forum is planned to take place in Bangkok with the participation of BRICS countries.
