Film Festival in Chennai showcases Russian films to celebrate Unity Day

The Russian Film Festival dedicated to the National Unity Day of Russia (4 November) concluded in Chennai, attracting more than 350 attendees to the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in association with the Russian House in Chennai.

The two-day event became a platform for celebration of cultural exchange between Russia and India, offering local audiences the chance to experience new Russian films on the big screen.

The inauguration ceremony was led by Aleksander Dodonov, Director of the Russian House in Chennai, together with film director Vignesh Karthick and cine artist Sharah Monu.

“Every year, the Indian audience’s interest in Russian cinema continues to grow, and modern Russian films consistently attract large and appreciative crowds. Film screenings at the Russian House in Chennai have become an integral part of the city’s cultural life – new Russian releases are eagerly awaited and warmly received,” Aleksander Dodonov noted, commenting on the success of the screenings.

Officials claimed that the festival reaffirmed the growing cultural connection between Russia and India, highlighting cinema’s ability to unite people through shared stories and artistic expression. The event was organised in collaboration with the Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation.
