GITIS takes part in the International Festival Carthage Theater Days in Tunisia

As part of the festival, Ekaterina Granitova-Lavrovskaya, Dean of the Directing Department of GITIS, gave a number of master classes

The XXIV International Festival Carthage Theater Days ended in Tunisia. This year several dozens of theatre groups from Europe, Asia and Africa participated in the events. The main theme of the festival is “Anton Chekhov and theatre – the influence of the outstanding Russian writer and playwright on modern theatre”.

The Carthage Theatre Days Festival is considered to be one of the largest renowned international theatre forums in Africa.

Various acting and directing classes conducted by Ekaterina Granitova-Lavrovskaya, lecturer of the Drama Directing Department of GITIS (Russian Institute of Theatre Arts) were organised for actors from Tunisian theatres and students of theatre institutes. GITIS is the partner of TV BRICS Media Network.

Tunisian colleagues showed great interest in the trainings. Agreements were reached on holding summer schools of GITIS and on staging productions of GITIS creative teams in Tunisia.

Russian theatres also performed on the stage of Tunisia – the Moscow theatre “School of Dramatic Art” with the performance “Chekhov in 3D” and the St. Petersburg Theatre of Young Spectators named after A. A. Bryantsev with the production “The Bear”.

The organisers are convinced that theatre cooperation between Russia and Tunisia will actively develop.
