City of Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis, and Democratic Alliance (DA) Sedibeng District Municipality Caucus leader, Sibusiso Dyonase will by contesting for the position of federal leader at the party’s upcoming Congress.
The DA congress will take place in Johannesburg, Gauteng next weekend where over 2 000 delegates are expected to elect the party’s top leadership. DA Federal Congress spokesperson Nazley Sharif says many young people have put up their hands to serve in the party’s top positions which demonstrates a “general shift” that is taking place within the party.
“And you know, I must say there seems to be a generational shift happening in the party that is happening organically. And it’s happening almost by itself, given that, you know, the DA really looks to empowering young people and growing their leadership style so that they can put their hand forward when it comes to Congresses.”
