India achieves first ever ultrasound-guided aortic valve implant

Doctors in India have for the first time successfully treated a 60-year-old patient with severe aortic stenosis using Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) guided by intravascular ultrasound. This is reported by
ANI, a partner of TV BRICS.

The patient had previously undergone bypass surgery, which made another open-heart operation extremely risky. The minimally invasive approach not only addressed his immediate condition but also offered a safer long-term solution.

The procedure involved an advanced tissue valve engineered for greater durability than conventional options. Laboratory tests suggest it can last the equivalent of 25 years, while clinical data show a 99.7 per cent success rate without deterioration at seven years.

With anti-calcification technology built in, the valve is designed to protect younger patients from repeat surgeries and allow decades of active living.

Specialists describe the achievement as a landmark in Indian cardiac care, signalling how next-generation technologies are reshaping treatment standards.
