India and ASEAN hold meeting of joint committee of agreement to improve trade in goods between parties
The meeting reviewed outcomes related to market access, rules of origin, standards and technical regulations
The meeting, chaired by Rajesh Agrawal, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, and Puan Mastura Binti Ahmad Mustafa, Deputy Secretary GeneralOf The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) of Malaysia, was attended by delegates from India and 10 Asean countries.
Discussions to revise the ASEAN-India Agreement on Trade in Goods (AITIGA) to make it more accessible and favourable to businesses across the region began in May 2023.
ASEAN is one of India’s major trading partners, accounting for 11 per cent of trade turnover, which will also be worth over US$122 billion in 2023-24. This is reported by

Recently, at the 26th ASEAN-India Senior Officials’ Meeting, both sides reviewed bilateral relations in detail, especially political, economic and socio-cultural security, which are the three pillars of engagement reflected in the 2021-2025 Action Plan.
They also spoke about the joint activities proposed to commemorate a decade of the East Indies Law Policy. They also exchanged views on regional and global issues and discussed preparations for the Asean-India Summit to be held in Vientiane, Laos, later this year.
