Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian visited his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Tehran on Monday, 15 January. The diplomats discussed the expansion of bilateral and multilateral ties within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and BRICS. This is reported by

“Reviewing the growing bilateral and multilateral relations within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and BRICS, we discussed the state of strategic ties, the development of Chabahar port and the importance of the North-South transit route,” the Iranian foreign minister wrote in his social media accounts.

Meanwhile, Jaishankar said India’s long-term participation in Chabahar Port and the North-South International Transport Corridor (INSTC) project were discussed during the bilateral conversation.

Earlier during his visit, Jaishankar held a meeting with Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mehrdad Bazrpash.

The North-South International Transport Corridor is a multi-modal transport route connecting the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf to the Caspian Sea via Iran and onwards to Northern Europe via St Petersburg, a press release from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways said.
