India to host second India–Arab foreign ministers’ meeting

India is set to host the second India–Arab Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on 31 January, as reported by
ANI, a partner of TV BRICS.

Foreign ministers from member states of the League of Arab States, along with the organisation’s Secretary-General, are expected to take part in the meeting. The ministerial dialogue will be preceded by the fourth India–Arab Senior Officials’ Meeting, aimed at reviewing progress and preparing the agenda for expanded cooperation.

The India–Arab Foreign Ministers’ Meeting serves as a key political platform for strengthening dialogue and coordination across a broad range of areas, including economic cooperation, energy security, education, media and cultural exchange. The first meeting was held in Bahrain in January 2016, when both sides adopted a joint declaration and an executive programme outlining priority areas of engagement.

India and the League of Arab States maintain long-standing ties rooted in centuries of trade, intellectual exchange and diplomacy. Institutional dialogue was formalised through agreements signed in 2002 and 2008, laying the foundation for structured cooperation under the Arab–India Cooperation Forum. Ministerial meetings are held every two years, supported by annual consultations at senior official level.

Economic relations remain a central pillar of the partnership. Trade between India and Arab League countries exceeds US$240 billion, underpinned by strong energy ties and growing cooperation in sectors such as food security, education, health, digital technologies and infrastructure. The Arab region also hosts a large Indian diaspora, contributing to close people-to-people links.

Cooperation has expanded steadily beyond trade to include academic exchanges, capacity-building programmes, energy dialogue and media collaboration. Recent initiatives have focused on higher education, skills development, advanced research and emerging technologies, as well as cultural engagement through regular festivals and exchanges.

The upcoming meeting in New Delhi is expected to reaffirm shared commitments to multilateralism, regional stability and South–South cooperation, while identifying new avenues for partnership amid shifting global economic and geopolitical dynamics.

Officials say the resumption of the foreign ministers’ dialogue reflects the strategic importance both sides attach to deepening ties and advancing a comprehensive, forward-looking India–Arab partnership.
