India wins five medals at Asian Wrestling Championships in Vietnam



The Wrestling Federation of India praised the athletes’ technical excellence

India’s under-17 freestyle wrestling team delivered a performance at the U17 Asian Wrestling Championships in Vung Tau, Vietnam, securing a total of five medals: three gold and two bronze. The achievement highlights the rising calibre of India’s young wrestlers and reinforces the country’s growing presence in the continental wrestling arena, as reported by

Among the standout performances, Gaurav Punia claimed gold in the 65 kg category, Arjun Ruhil took gold in the 92 kg division, and Lacky emerged victorious in the 110 kg weight class. In the lighter categories, Shivam earned a bronze in the 45 kg event, while Dhanraj Ganapati secured bronze in the 51 kg division.

The Wrestling Federation of India praised the athletes’ technical excellence and resilience, particularly in the heavier weight divisions. The organisation also acknowledged the vital role of coaches and support staff in preparing the athletes for international competition.

Experts stated that the Indian contingent’s success in Vietnam is seen as a promising step towards strengthening the country’s youth wrestling programme and building a competitive future on the Asian and global stage.
