During his meeting with Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar delivered a message from Narendra Modi to him. The Indian Foreign Minister also noted that the Indian Prime Minister is looking forward to meeting the Russian President at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit and hopes that the Russian leader will be able to attend the BRICS summit in New Delhi. The minister highlighted the successes of Russian-Indian economic cooperation.
“Let me first of all begin by conveying the good wishes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Excellency, he has given me a personal communication, which I would like to hand over to you. […] Prime Minister Modi looks forward to meeting you at the SCO summit, then welcoming you in India for the BRICS summit. And, in due course, as per your mutual convenience, having the annual summit. So, Excellency, I think that we have a very strong picture of cooperation to present,” said Jaishankar.
The Russian leader, for his part, noted that Narendra Modi pays close personal attention to the development of Russian-Indian relations.
“I am glad to note that trade between our two countries has increased this year. […] As we begin this conversation, I would like to ask you to convey my very best wishes to Modi. I hope to see him soon, as we planned, as part of our work within the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation,” said Putin.
Earlier, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov discussed issues of bilateral cooperation within the framework of the Intergovernmental Russian-Indian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation. According to the Russian government’s
website, by the end of the first half of 2026, the volume of trade between Russia and India had increased by 8 per cent.
Vladimir Putin highlighted the work of the intergovernmental commission and the key issues on its agenda.
“There are many items on the agenda, which extends far beyond energy supplies. Fertiliser shipments are among these matters. We are doing everything to resolve this issue for Indian farmers and for the country’s agricultural sector. Russia is expanding its exports and is ready to continue doing so. There are other matters too regarding nuclear energy, cooperation in high technology and other sectors – they are all on the agenda, and there has been steady progress on all these fronts,” the Russian President assured.
