Indian–Zimbabwean cooperation deepens as investments surpass US$600 million

India’s growing partnership with Zimbabwe has reached a new milestone, with Indian investments in the country now exceeding US$600 million and supporting more than 15,000 jobs. This is reported by
New Ziana, a partner of TV BRICS.

The update was delivered by India’s ambassador to Zimbabwe, Bramha Kumar, during an Alumni Meet of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme in Bulawayo, aimed at innovative technological cooperation between India and partner countries. The gathering brought together government officials, former ITEC scholars from across Matabeleland, and media representatives.

Ambassador Kumar noted that bilateral trade continues on an upward trajectory, reaching US$260 million in the last financial year.

A range of development initiatives are advancing under joint cooperation frameworks. One of these, a US$1 million project funded through the India–United Nations Development Partnership Fund, has been completed in Chiredzi and Mangwe districts, promoting climate-resilient agriculture.

Ambassador Kumar praised the long-standing ties between the two countries. He underlined capacity building as a central pillar of cooperation, with India offering more than 250 scholarships annually to Zimbabwe under the ITEC programme. In addition, around 56 fully funded academic opportunities have been provided in recent years through complementary scholarship schemes.

This year, Zimbabwe also sent 71 officers to India for a Train-the-Trainer programme aimed at enhancing professional skills across key sectors.
