Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said coal production by the country’s companies has surpassed 1 billion tonnes in 2023-2024, as reported by

Calling the achievement a “remarkable event”, the politician said it paves the way for sustainability and progress in the vital sector.

Indian Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi stressed that for the first time in history, India’s hard coal and lignite production has exceeded 1 billion tonnes.

Due to increase in domestic coal production, imported raw material for blending in thermal power plants in the country declined by 36.69 per cent to 19,36 million tonnes between April 2023 and January 2024, the publication said.
