India’s coffee exports rose 40 per cent to US$1.54 billion between April and February this year, up from US$1.10 billion in the same period last year, according to the country’s Ministry of Commerce.

The list of major markets for Indian coffee includes Russia, UAE, and other countries. India is the world’s seventh largest coffee producer and fifth largest coffee exporter, according to
IANS, a partner of TV BRICS.

Indian coffee is grown in the ecologically diverse regions of the Western and Eastern Ghats. Karnataka state is the leader in production, followed by Kerala and Tamil Nadu. These areas are famous for their shady plantations, which not only contribute to the coffee industry but also maintain the ecological balance.

Along with the growth in exports, India’s domestic coffee consumption is also on the rise, rising from 84,000 tonnes in 2012 to 91,000 tonnes in 2023. This trend is driven by the increasing popularity of coffee shops, rising disposable incomes, and a shift in consumer preferences from tea to coffee.
