Indonesia and Brazil launch partnership to train specialists for semiconductor and aerospace sectors

Indonesia and Brazil are exploring opportunities for cooperation in the fields of semiconductor manufacturing, aerospace engineering and biofuels. The announcement was made in Jakarta during a meeting between Indonesia’s Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Brian Yuliarto, and a Brazilian delegation, as reported by
ANTARA.

The discussions are focused on partnerships between Indonesian universities and the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), a partner of TV BRICS. Marco Roberto Cavallari, a representative of Unicamp, noted that Indonesian master’s and doctoral students would be able to study microfabrication, integrated circuit design and materials science in Brazil.

Brazil’s Deputy Chief of Mission to Indonesia, Rodrigo Alexandre Oliveira de Carvalho, said that the University of Campinas is prepared to accept up to 10 Indonesian postgraduate students in cooperation with the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). The programme will focus on semiconductor manufacturing and integrated circuit development, sectors regarded as critical to future industrial competitiveness.

Brazil is also discussing the possible involvement of major institutions in the initiative. The governments of both countries are working towards finalising an education cooperation agreement. It is noted that the proposed collaboration between Unicamp and ITB could serve as the foundation for a future dual-degree programme between the two universities.

Yuliarto stated that Indonesia expects tangible benefits from this cooperation for both sides. He also called for closer engagement between researchers from the two countries, including joint research projects involving university academics.

Oliveira de Carvalho welcomed Indonesia’s request for assistance in developing skilled professionals for strategic industries. According to him, the initiative forms part of Brazil’s efforts to help Indonesia build a highly qualified workforce for advanced technology sectors.
