Indonesia is contemplating joining BRICS

The country’s authorities are studying the potential benefits of such a decision

According to the Indonesian Defence Minister, Prabowo Subianto, if joining the BRICS group will be beneficial for the country, Indonesia may consider joining the alliance. This is reported by
TASS.

Indonesia is already a member of the G20, ASEAN and APEC, so if joining BRICS is aligned with the country’s economic interests, it could take place.

Earlier, Indonesian President Joko Widodo also announced the country’s possible membership in BRICS in 2024 or 2025, but the head of state is in no hurry to make a decision.

Director of the Department of Economic Co-operation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Dmitry Birichevsky noted that Indonesia is very interested in partnership with BRICS, even despite its non-alignment at present.
