The Indonesian government is preparing new regulations aimed at reducing carbon emissions across the country’s mining sector, reports
Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.
According to the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the initiative is part of a broader effort to improve environmental standards in extractive industries and align with global sustainability expectations.
Central to the plan is the development of comprehensive environmental management standards for mining operations, with a specific emphasis on lowering carbon output. Julian Ambassadur Shiddiq, Director of Mineral and Coal Programme Development at the ministry, highlighted the urgent need for clear operational guidelines and effective compensation mechanisms to ensure compliance.
Shiddiq noted that introducing rigorous standards in mining areas will not only mitigate environmental damage but also help safeguard market access for Indonesian exports, as they will comply with international standards.
