International Film Festival in Santa Catarina brings together participants from 11 countries

The Florianópolis Audiovisual Mercosur International Film Festival (FAM 2025) concluded its 29th edition in Santa Catarina, bringing together more than 100 activities. This year, the festival’s programme received 1,214 submissions, from which 78 films from 11 countries were selected.

The Colombian feature “Soñé Su Nombre” (“I Dreamed His Name”), directed by Angela Carabali, won the award for Best Feature-Length Documentary, while the Argentine-Uruguayan co-production “La Falta” (“The Absence”), directed by Carmela Sandberg, was the winner in the Best Short Film category. Among the works from Santa Catarina, the short film “A Lua dos Beijos Silentes” (“The Moon of Silent Kisses”), directed by Mika Queiroz, won as Best Film.

As part of the festival, the 9th Mercosur Co-production Meeting – ECM+LAB was held, aimed at business networking among representatives of the audiovisual sector. With 42 projects presented and the participation of 43 players, the event promoted 333 business meetings and generated new investment opportunities, in addition to strengthening collaboration between producers, creators and institutions in the sector.

Marilha Naccari, organiser of the event, emphasised that this space not only offers opportunities for professional development but also directly contributes to strengthening the audiovisual market.

“Here it is: a festival, a market, training. At the 9th ECM, we already had 14 awards; that is, a lot has already taken place in terms of the market, but training continued. There were 5 panels and thematic meetings, and we had here engagement with municipal, state and federal authorities and representatives from 11 countries,” she stated.

Tiago Santos, executive director of the association organising the event, highlighted the relevance of the representation of various Latin American countries and its significant impact on the sector.

“Inclusion is what we do; it is moving to be here with a full hall. We have Chileans, Colombians, Bolivians, and Paraguayans. In short, Latin America was represented. I thank the partners and supporters who made the festival possible,” he shared.

The 29th Florianópolis Audiovisual Mercosur (FAM 2025) strengthens the connection between Florianópolis and Santa Catarina with the global film scene. The event was supported by the Florianópolis Cultural Foundation, the Government of Santa Catarina, and was carried out through Brazil’s Cultural Incentive Law, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Federal Government.
