Iran and China have agreed to expand their agricultural trade to a value of US$2 billion within the next two years, according to Iran’s Minister of Agriculture, Gholamreza Nouri.
Current trade between the two countries in this sector is estimated at around US$740 million, with fruit exports already forming a significant component. This is reported by
Mehr News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.
The minister underlined that the export potential of certain categories of agricultural products could alone reach US$1 billion, highlighting the scale of opportunities for growth. He noted that Iran and China share complementary strengths that enable them to support each other across a range of sectors, including agriculture, research, and technology.
Scientific and research cooperation has been prioritised, with joint projects on rice production and the establishment of shared research stations already planned. Delegations of scientists and experts from both countries have begun exchanges to advance this collaboration.
In addition, groundwork has been laid for regional joint investment in agricultural vaccine production technology, alongside ongoing efforts to conclude financial and funding agreements to further support bilateral projects. Details of these agreements will be announced once they are ready for implementation.
