Iran and Malaysia advance joint tourism programmes and heritage protection

Iran and Malaysia are developing practical programmes in cultural and halal tourism, heritage protection and handicrafts, Ali Darabi, Iran’s Deputy Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, says in an exclusive interview with
IRNA, a TV BRICS partner.

The two countries are working to expand tourist and cultural exchanges, as well as participation in tourism events and exhibitions, Darabi says after meeting Malaysia’s Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dato Sri Tiong King Sing on the sidelines of the fourth session of the Asian Cultural Heritage Alliance in Hangzhou, China.

According to the official, protecting cultural heritage requires international cooperation in technical knowledge exchange, joint training and restoration based on scientific methods and recognised standards.

Iran also seeks to attract more Malaysian tourists by promoting the country’s historical, cultural and natural attractions. Darabi calls for closer cooperation between travel and tourism companies and agencies in the two countries.

He also proposes holding an “Iran Week” in Malaysia to showcase Iran’s cultural and civilisational heritage. The timing and programme of the event require coordination between the relevant institutions, with the participation of Iran’s Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts.
