Iran unveils nano-engineered bone regeneration material with enhanced healing performance

Iranian researchers have introduced a nano-engineered synthetic bone graft designed to significantly improve the speed and safety of bone regeneration. The new biomimetic material, inspired by the natural structure of bone tissue, was presented by national scientific authorities as part of ongoing efforts to advance regenerative medicine and reduce reliance on imported grafts. This is reported by
Mehr News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

Developed using hydroxyapatite nanoparticles measuring less than 50 nanometres, the powder features an exceptionally high surface area of more than 150 m²/g. This nanoscale structure enables strong stimulation of bone formation and rapid absorption of blood, allowing the material to support both bone repair and coagulation during surgical procedures.

The graft is produced in multiple forms – including powder, granules, soft and hard cubes, and mesh-based rods – offering surgeons flexibility to select the most suitable option for specific operations.

Clinical assessments indicate that the biomimetic graft can increase bone healing by up to 75 per cent in granular form and 63 per cent in powder form. These results highlight its potential as a cost-effective and efficient alternative to imported materials, which currently account for more than 82 per cent of the synthetic bone grafts used in Iran.

With more than 25,987 operations annually requiring such grafts, domestic production is expected to reduce foreign currency expenditure and improve access to safe, high-quality medical solutions.

Experts note that advances in nanostructured biomaterials are strengthening Iran’s capacity in regenerative technologies and contributing to greater technological independence in healthcare. The development also opens the door for the future export of locally produced biomedical products rooted in homegrown scientific expertise, the source claims.
