Iranian official considers country’s accession to BRICS and SCO as important achievement of government

He pointed to the president’s desire to strengthen relations with neighbouring countries

Iran’s accession to BRICS and joining the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) have been important achievements of the government of the republic headed by President Ebrahim Raisi, considers Mahmoud Abbaszadeh Meshkini, a spokesman for the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee.

“Joining BRICS and SCO and advancing in cooperation with many international organisations are among the government’s important achievements in the past two years,” said Mahmoud Abbaszadeh Meshkini

Meshkini noted that the president has laid emphasis on developing cooperation with neighbouring states and has put a lot of efforts in this direction. This is reported by
IRNA, a partner of TV BRICS.

According to the agency, non-oil trade between Iran and 15 neighbouring countries rose 1,8 percent to US$50 billion in the first 10 months of this year (ends March 21).

Iran joined BRICS on 1 January 2024. The republic joined the SCO in July 2023.
