Iranian scientist creates micro-CT device

The new device will allow visualisation of various microstructures

Tehran-based researcher Hossein Ghadiri Kherwani has developed a unique microcomputed tomography (CT) device that opens up new possibilities for studying microstructures in various fields. This is reported by
IRNA, a partner of TV BRICS.

The device is capable of producing three-dimensional images with a resolution of up to 2 micrometres without destroying the samples under study. It will find application in electronic engineering, materials science, oil and gas industry, biomedicine, geology and other fields.

Micro-CT will make it possible to analyse microchips, materials at the micron level, rocks, tissues, as well as to study fossils.

The development is already being used in a number of universities in Iran for scientific research. According to Kherwani, the new microcomputer tomograph is important for checking the quality of biological materials, studying rock infrastructure in the oil and gas industry and scanning insects in agriculture.
