Iranian scientist develops more accurate home test for COVID-19 and cancer

Innovative biosensor technology is 100 times more sensitive than existing tests and is suitable for diagnosing serious diseases at home

Iranian researcher has unveiled a new development – a highly accurate home test for diagnosing COVID-19 and cancer. The new test uses inexpensive biosensor technology, which makes it 100 times more sensitive than existing rapid tests. This is reported by
Pars Today, a partner of TV BRICS.

The development is based on the use of plasmonic nanoparticles that can react to the presence of disease-related proteins. To perform the test, simply apply a drop of fluid – for example, a swab from the nose or mouth – to a special membrane.

After drying, a ring of biomarkers forms, to which a second drop with nanoparticles is added. If disease markers are present, the nanoparticles form specific patterns that change the light reaction, which can be seen with the naked eye or through a mobile app with AI.

According to researcher, this method provides accurate results in a short time and can be used to screen not only for COVID-19, but also for serious diseases such as prostate cancer and sepsis.
