Iran’s agricultural exports grow by 29% in latest fiscal year

Pistachios, fish, and saffron drive US$5.2 billion in overseas sales

Official customs data reveals that Iran’s agricultural exports surged to US$5.2 billion in the twelve months leading up to March 2024, marking a substantial 29 per cent increase compared to the previous year.

The rise was accompanied by an 11 per cent growth in export volume, totalling 7.6 million metric tonnes, signalling a robust expansion in the country’s agribusiness sector.

Pistachios remained the most lucrative export, generating US$1.5 billion in revenue, while fishery products, led by shrimp and tuna, recorded a 17 per cent rise, reaching US$372 million. Other key contributors included tomatoes (US$233 million), dates (US$205 million), and saffron (US$185 million), with the latter primarily shipped to the UAE and China, as reported by
Press TV, a partner of TV BRICS.

The growth highlights Iran’s ongoing efforts to diversify its economy and strengthen its position in global food markets through increased production and expanded trade relations.
