Iran’s deputy foreign minister talks about working on infrastructure for BRICS single currency
He called BRICS a driving force for building a just world
The BRICS states are actively working on creating infrastructure for the group’s single currency, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Ali Bagheri Kani said on the margins of the “Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum”.
“Such a serious step requires a large infrastructure that will affect many sectors of the economy, trade. All countries are now actively working on it, analysing the situation and looking for more convenient ways of solution,” he said.
The diplomat noted that BRICS is a driving force for building a world based on justice. According to Bagheri Kani, the BRICS summit in Kazan in October, which will be held during Russia’s chairmanship of the group, “will be of great significance.”
BRICS has gone through two waves of expansion since its founding in 2006. In 2011, South Africa joined the original membership, which included Brazil, Russia, India and China. On 1 January 2024, Egypt, Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia joined the group.
Russia holds the BRICS chairmanship this year. The meeting of the heads of diplomatic departments of the BRICS member states will be held in Nizhny Novgorod in June, and the BRICS summit will be held in Kazan in October.
