Kazakhstan and Vietnam target sharp rise in trade as economic ties deepen

Kazakhstan and Vietnam have reaffirmed their intention to significantly expand bilateral trade, setting an ambitious goal to double mutual trade turnover by 2026 amid growing political and economic engagement, reports
Kazinform, a partner of TV BRICS.

The commitment was highlighted during talks between Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy Serik Zhumangarin and Vietnam’s Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh. Both sides noted the steady strengthening of relations over the past three decades and agreed that economic cooperation should now enter a more dynamic phase.

Kazakhstan plans to dispatch a trade and economic mission to Vietnam later this year, aiming to unlock new export opportunities and broaden sectoral cooperation, the source reports.

Agriculture remains a key driver of bilateral trade. In 2025, Kazakhstan resumed wheat supplies to Vietnam after an eight-year pause, exporting over 15,000 tonnes using multimodal transport solutions that significantly reduced delivery times and logistics costs.

In addition to grain, Kazakhstan continues to export flour, meat, dairy products and oilseeds. To facilitate further growth, Astana proposed concluding a veterinary cooperation agreement, which would simplify market access for agricultural goods.

Kazakhstan also invited Vietnam to increase its use of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, known as the Middle Corridor. Officials noted that the route cuts delivery times by three to four times compared with traditional southern sea routes, enhancing supply chain efficiency.

Astana expressed readiness to offer favourable logistics conditions and to develop joint industrial projects, particularly in light manufacturing and mechanical engineering.
