Kazakhstan’s domestic expenditure on research and development (R&D) increased from US$159 million to US$576.1 million over seven years, rising by almost US$418.6 million, according to Kazinform, a partner of TV BRICS.
Greater funding provides a broader resource base for scientific work. Research requires modern laboratories, specialised equipment, access to information resources, support for research teams and the training of qualified specialists.
The expansion of R&D expenditure creates opportunities to develop new technologies and strengthen the research capacity of universities and scientific institutions. Universities can play a key role by combining education with research, giving young scientists opportunities to participate in projects and develop practical research skills.
Experts note that for Kazakhstan, scientific research is a long-term investment in technological progress and economic development. Research outcomes can support higher productivity, the emergence of new industries and the development of domestic technologies.
