Kazakhstan plans to introduce work visas for foreign students

The Kazakh authorities are considering the possibility of issuing visas to foreign students allowing them to work officially in the country. This was announced by the Minister of Science and Higher Education, Sayasat Nurbek, according to
Kazinform, a partner of TV BRICS.

Today, there are already about 31,500 foreign students studying in Kazakhstan, and by 2029, the plan is to increase their number to 150,000. To achieve this goal, it is proposed to speed up the document processing process – visas will be issued in 5 days, and it will also be possible to obtain a multiple-entry electronic visa of category C9 for the entire period of study.

A separate initiative is being considered to introduce visas for graduates of foreign universities with international accreditation. If they have a job offer, they will be able to stay in Kazakhstan and work for up to three years. According to the minister, this will attract talented specialists and strengthen the contribution of young people to the country’s economy and science.

In addition, the draft Migration Policy Concept provides for the issuance of visas that may subsequently entitle the holder to a residence permit. Such documents will be intended for foreign specialists with sought-after skills and for ethnic Kazakhs.
