Kyrgyzstan is preparing to launch its first domestically developed satellite in early October. This was reported by Akchabar, a partner of TV BRICS.
The satellite was developed and assembled in Kyrgyzstan over approximately 2.5 years. Final preparations are currently under way, including the assembly of key components, installation of electronic equipment and testing of the spacecraft’s systems.
The satellite will primarily support the country’s agricultural sector. Data from the spacecraft will help monitor cultivated areas, assess agricultural land and pastures, identify early signs of drought and provide preliminary estimates of crop yields.
Satellite imagery will also be used to assess the effects of emergencies and monitor changes in glaciers, water resources and the environment. According to Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Erlist Akunbekov, the new capabilities will expand opportunities for forecasting in agriculture and environmental monitoring.
The project is being implemented under the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry.
