During the conversation, Lula and Modi emphasised the importance of the Brazil–India Business Forum held last year, reaffirming the relevance of multilateralism and their mutual commitment to expanding trade partnerships and consolidating integration between the two countries.
In addition, Lula discussed a range of issues in a telephone call with the President of China, Xi Jinping, reaffirming the strategic importance of the partnership between the two countries, according to
China Daily, a partner of TV BRICS.
During the dialogue, Xi Jinping noted that China’s development, focused on sustainability and innovation, should generate new opportunities for cooperation with Brazil. The Chinese President stressed that this process creates favourable conditions for deepening relations across various areas, bringing benefits to both nations.
The Chinese leader recalled that in 2024 Brazil and China elevated their relations to the level of a community with a shared future, aimed at building a more just and sustainable world. According to him, over the past year this partnership has advanced steadily, with greater alignment of development strategies and tangible results in bilateral cooperation.
Xi Jinping emphasised his country’s readiness to deepen partnerships across multiple sectors, with a focus on innovation and economic growth.
As part of cooperation with China, Brazil’s Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, recently met in Shanghai with representatives of a Chinese nuclear company to discuss the modernisation of Brazil’s nuclear sector. According to the
ministry, the meeting addressed the application of advanced technologies, such as small modular reactors.
Silveira stressed that Brazil possesses the entire nuclear value chain, from mineral research to power generation and equipment manufacturing, highlighting the strategic potential of modular reactors for industrial use. This technology contributes to diversifying the energy mix and supports the transition to clean energy sources.
The minister also pointed out that strengthening Brazil’s nuclear sector could attract investment, especially in mineral research and the development of the uranium production chain. He emphasised that expanding the country’s geological mapping, currently completed at only 30 per cent, is a decisive step towards identifying new reserves and consolidating Brazil as a significant player on the international nuclear stage.
