The Pietermaritzburg High Court in KwaZulu-Natal is today set to sentence one of the people implicated in the murder of former African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) Secretary-General Sindiso Magaqa.
Sibusiso Ncengwa pleaded guilty to Magaqa’s murder as well as to charges of attempted murder and malicious damage to property.
He was shot in uMzimkhulu in July 2017 and succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara says, “On 6 June 2025, Sibusiso Ncengwa admitted to shooting Magaqa in July 2017 in the uMzimkhulu area. He also admitted to the attempted murder of Jabulile Msiya, Nonsikelelo Mafa and Nceba Mazongolo.”
Ramkisson-Kara adds, “The case against his remaining co-accused Sbonelo Myeza and Mbulelo Mpofana returns to court on 6 October 2025 for trial. Mlungisi Ncalane, who was subsequently declared unfit to stand trial is currently admitted at a psychiatric facility.” Reporting by Nombuso Dlamini.
