A major digital infrastructure project has been announced in Malaysia involving the construction of a new data centre in Cyberjaya, Selangor, with an overall investment of approximately US$590 million. The planned facility will feature a capacity of around 65 megawatts and is designed to incorporate advanced energy-efficient cooling systems, including immersion-based technologies. These solutions are aimed at improving operational efficiency and supporting high-performance computing demands.
As part of the wider project, plans also include the establishment of an artificial intelligence coordination centre and a dedicated centre of excellence. According to the source, these elements are intended to strengthen capabilities in data processing, machine learning, and next-generation digital applications.
A significant component of the initiative focuses on human capital development, with targets to train and certify at least 500 engineers in advanced computing and artificial intelligence disciplines. This is expected to contribute to the development of a highly skilled digital workforce.
In a further phase, additional investment has been outlined for a high-performance computing facility dedicated to artificial intelligence workloads. The facility will support large-scale data processing and advanced machine learning applications.
