Malaysia pursues deeper economic ties with China to bolster palm oil sector

China emerges as Malaysia’s third-largest palm oil market in 2024

Malaysia’s plantation and commodities deputy minister, Chan Foong Hin, announced that closer collaboration with China will unlock new business prospects for Malaysia’s palm oil sector. This is reported by
Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

Chan underscored Malaysia’s ambition to reinforce bilateral trade ties, broaden access for palm oil exports, and foster sector-wide innovation.

“In this official visit, we reaffirm Malaysia’s dedication to strengthening economic cooperation with China, expanding market opportunities for our palm oil products, and driving sustainable growth across major export industries,” Chan said in a statement.

He noted that in 2024, China was Malaysia’s third-largest importer of palm oil and related products, accounting for 10 per cent of the country’s total palm oil export value.
