Malaysia’s FRIM Forest Park gains UNESCO World Heritage status
The designation raises Malaysia’s UNESCO sites to six
The Forest Research Institute Malaysia Forest Park (FRIM-FPS), located in the state of Selangor, has been officially added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. The announcement was made by Malaysia’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, as reported by
BERNAMA, a TV BRICS partner.
The decision was revealed during the 47th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, held at the organisation’s headquarters.
The park is regarded as one of the earliest large-scale success stories in tropical forest ecological restoration. It transformed former tin mining areas into a forest ecosystem resembling the original natural habitat. The project has since become an international model for reforestation, noted for its high biodiversity and environmental sustainability.
The park employs innovative methods of ecological recovery and sustainable land use, converting degraded land into mature tropical rainforest.
With this latest recognition, Malaysia now has six sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
