Disaster detection measures, including earthquake monitoring, will form part of Johor’s Smart City development indicators, according to the state government. This is reported by
BERNAMA News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.
Johor’s Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said plans are being considered to introduce an early warning system through smartphones. The platform would send alerts to residents within a designated radius in the event of earthquakes, fires or accidents.
Although Malaysia is in a tectonically stable zone, officials said recent tremors in Segamat highlight the importance of enhanced monitoring.
The Johor Smart City Forum (JSCF) will take place from 22 to 24 September, featuring more than 40 exhibitors, including industry representatives from ASEAN countries. For the first time, international participation will include Indonesia, Brunei, and Thailand. JSCF 2025 will be a platform for states in Malaysia to share their experiences and smart city development initiatives.
