Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar: India aims for more inclusive BRICS chairmanship

India’s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has called stressed the need for international institutions to become more representative, inclusive and effective. This is reported by

Speaking in New Delhi at an event marking the launch of the BRICS 2026 logo, Jaishankar highlighted BRICS as a key platform for advancing economic cooperation and sustainable development among its members. He noted that financial cooperation within the group has become an important tool for supporting infrastructure projects and long-term growth, particularly in emerging economies.

India, he said, remains committed to strengthening BRICS mechanisms, while delivering tangible benefits to member states.

He also said the group is guided by the principles of mutual respect, sovereign equality, and consensus, and pledged that India’s chairmanship would be practical, people-centred and outcome-orientated.

Expressing confidence in continued cooperation, the minister said India looks forward to working closely with all BRICS member states, partner countries and stakeholders during its tenure as chair in 2026.

The official
website of the 2026 BRICS Summit has been launched as the central platform during India’s chairmanship year to provide timely information on meetings, initiatives and outcomes throughout 2026.

This year, India, one of the founding members of the grouping, will for the first time lead the expanded format of the group, which now includes 10 member states.
