Moscow to share river transport experience with Sao Paulo
The Moscow City Government and the administration of Brazilian Sao Paulo signed a memorandum of mutually beneficial partnership. This is reported by the
press service of the Moscow transport complex.
The main direction of cooperation is the development of environmentally friendly river transport. The parties plan to exchange experience, create joint initiatives and develop a pilot project of an electric vessel for passenger transport in Sao Paulo.
“It is very important for us to adopt the experience of the Russian capital in the field of water transport. It is on this task that our memorandum is focused,” said Angela Vidal Martins Gandra, Municipal Secretary of Sao Paulo for International Relations.
It is noted that Moscow is ready to share its experience: the capital’s river electric transport has been successfully operating for two years and is popular with residents and tourists.
“After getting acquainted with the work of Moscow’s urban transport, especially water transport, I am sure that our cooperation will be fruitful,” emphasised Rafael Toniato, Deputy Municipal Secretary for Urban Mobility and Transport of Sao Paulo City Hall.
In addition, a training course on intelligent transport systems was organised for Brazilian specialists, including visits to key Moscow transport infrastructure facilities.
“Moscow colleagues convinced us that the developments that Moscow is implementing can significantly change the transport situation in Sao Paulo,” added Joao Paulo de Oliveira, Technical Advisor for Cooperation in the field of sustainable urban development.
Previously, similar programmes were held for representatives of Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Iraq.
