New potential BRICS member is South Sudan

At the moment, the state is considering the issues of applying for membership in the organization

South Sudan’s ambassador to Moscow, Chol Tong Mayay Jang, confirmed the country’s interest in joining BRICS and the possibility of applying for membership in the organization.

He noted that South Sudan aspires to become a member of an organization in which its interests will be taken into account, and that the issue of applying is under study. After appropriate consideration by the institute, the application will be sent in accordance with the established procedure. This is reported by
TASS.

The Ambassador also pointed out that many countries that were previously considered third world countries consider BRICS as an attractive initiative for cooperation.

The BRICS Summit, which took place at the end of August in Johannesburg, announced the expansion of the organization. It is expected that Argentina, Egypt, Iran, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia will become full member countries of the association on January 1, 2024.

The expansion of the association will also increase the economic influence of the organization. The BRICS, created in 2009, currently represents about 40% of the world’s population and more than a quarter of global GDP.
