Nigeria and Egypt strengthen aviation ties with new bilateral agreement
Nigeria and Egypt have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at deepening cooperation in the aviation sector across Africa. The agreement was formalised in Abuja by Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdelatty.
Minister Keyamo highlighted that the MoU not only signals a shared commitment to improving aviation ties but also serves as a strategic move to enhance commerce, tourism, and diplomatic relations between the two countries. This is reported by the
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), a partner of TV BRICS.
Keyamo also noted that the deal aligns with the new African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC) Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA) framework and is expected to drive growth in technical cooperation, route development, and civil aviation infrastructure.
Minister Abdelatty, expressed Egypt’s readiness to strengthen cooperation with Nigeria across all sectors. Emphasising both nations’ strategic importance to African stability and progress, he cited the high demand for travel between the two countries.
The main Egyptian airline currently operates more than 600 flights annually to Lagos and Kano, and plans are underway to increase that frequency.
