Nkabane appointed acting chaiperson of Parly portfolio committee

Former Higher Education and Training Minister Dr Nobuhle Nkabane has been appointed as the acting chairperson of the portfolio committee on Agriculture.

This follows the appointment of former Chairperson Dina Pule as the Minister of Social Development during a recent Cabinet reshufle.

Nkabane was previously fired as the Minister of Higher Education and Training following controversy in the appointment of SETA board chairpersons.

The committee says Nkabane was appointed as part of ensuring continuity in its oversight work. It says it wants to enable the committee to continue discharging its constitutional responsibilities pending the election of a permanent chairperson.

Last week, the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) expressed disappointment over the appointment of former Communications minister Dina Pule as the new minister of Social Development.

Pule was removed from her position during the tenure of Jacob Zuma after being found guilty of maladministration and improper conduct.

She was sworn in yesterday along with other new ministers following a cabinet reshuffle.

Pule fills the position left vacant after the dismissal of Sisisi Tolashe, who was facing allegations of undeclared gifts and irregular appointments in her department.
