Pakistan’s ambassador to Russia stated that Pakistan expects to join BRICS in 2024
The Pakistani Ambassador, Muhammad Khalid Jamali, has stated that Pakistan has applied for membership in BRICS and expects Russia’s support in joining the alliance, with the aim of becoming a member by 2024, coinciding with Russia’s chairmanship of BRICS. This is reported by
ANI, a partner of TV BRICS.
BRICS is in the process of finalizing the list of candidate countries for partner status prior to the upcoming summit in Kazan in 2024.
The Ambassador emphasized that Islamabad actively interacts with the member countries of the alliance, seeking their support in Pakistan’s membership in this key organisation.
Russian-Pakistani relations
June 2023 marked an important milestone in bilateral relations between Russia and Pakistan, as the first batch of Russian oil, totaling 45,000 tons out of 100,000 tons, arrived in the cash-strapped Pakistani port city.
Pakistan is collaborating with Russia to establish direct air connectivity between the two countries to strengthen diplomatic ties with Moscow. This initiative is being pursued alongside Pakistan’s active efforts to secure Russia’s support in its aspiration to join the BRICS group of nations in 2024.
